Normal car inspections were being done outside the War Memorial on Friday night by officers from the Fort Police station.
CHENNAI: On Saturday, the city police detained a lawyer who had assaulted a sub-inspector who had been on duty the previous day. On Friday night, standard vehicle inspections were being carried out nearby the War Monument, according to the police.
They stopped Prasanna Venkatesan, an attorney, and his wife who were riding on the back of a motorcycle. A dispute broke out after the cops asked him to present paperwork connected to the vehicle.
He assaulted SI Prabakaran, who was later taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The lawyer was detained by police for questioning.
